What is a DPF?
A (Diesel Particle Filter) DPF is a filter on the exhaust system its primary function is to trap certain elements in a vehicles exhaust gasses to overall lower the output of harmful emissions. DPFs are actually designed to block as they trap the particles (commonly referred to as soot) DPFs are also designed to clean themselves through a regeneration, which is a burning process the occurs at very high temperatures (around 650+ degrees). The regeneration process causes the soot to burn off as a less harmful substance overall lowering the harmful emissions output.
Why do DPFs get clogged up?
1. Incorrect driving conditions or lack of high speed or long distance driving. (most common)
2. Poor quality products constantly used in the vehicle (for example low quality fuel and oil) and poor maintenance.
3. Faulty dpf system components for example faulty pressure sensor or on certain models a faulty fuel vaporiser or dpf fluid/additive system fault.
4. Other unrelated engine faults on the vehicle. Yes as crazy as it sounds there are many completely unrelated faults which can prevent the dpf from regenerating or functioning correctly. And can cause dpf faults to trigger or block even if there was nothing at all wrong with it.
What is the cleaning process?
After diagnosing a blockage, we use a chemical flush system that is pressurised and we flush directly into the DPF through a pipe. Most vehicles can be successfully cleaned with a 2 step cleaning process. (Soak in & Flush out) The process is as follows...
1. Flush the chemical into the DPF and allow to soak. (Soak times depends on the level of block)
2. Clear out the chemical via manual control of the revs.
3. Repeat the process and pressure test the system in between flushing untill a satisfactory low pressure reading is achieved.
4. Reset the dpf system, clear any related warning lights, messages or fault codes, test drive and monitor the system.
Mobile Service
Call out fee - £90.00 (If cleaning isn't required after testing)
DPF cleaning - £300.00 to £350.00
(Depending on vehicle, Blockage Level & Location)
Please Note: Very rarely (once or twice per year) we come across DPFs that are suspected to be damaged or severely blocked that mobile cleaning is not possible or unsuccessful in these cases we only charge our call out fee.
